Log Files
Alter-Ego makes use of three different log files which may be useful when troubleshooting
migration issues.
All logs are simple ASCII text files which can be opened with Notepad, WordPad or any other text
editor of your choice. Most logs can be accessed through the View menu. Clicking the appropriate log type will open the file using the console PC's default text editor. Some options for the log files can be adjusted through the configuration
dialog, including where the logs are saved (Log Path and Log Collect Path) and the detail level
of the logs (Logging Level).
The three types of log files are:
- Client log: Created by the client
executables on the client PCs. The client logs are collected to the console as part of each migration.
- Hander log: Created by the Handler
component, the Handler log records the primary events during the migration.
- Transferor log: Created by the transferor components, the Transferor logs record the actions performed by each Transferor during deployment and cleanup.
The Progress Log referred in the message which appears at the end of a migration is not a
log file, but rather refers to the message area which appears in the right-hand
pane of the console
window during and immediately after a migration. The Progress Log is hidden again
once the Done button is pressed at the end of the migration.
