Easy Setup Wizard - Profile Migration Only
This document provides a step-by-step guide on how to use the
Easy Setup Wizard to configure global settings for a
migration
in which user profiles are changed, but PC domain membership remains the same.
Step-by-Step
- Start the Easy Setup Wizard by clicking on Tools ->
Easy Setup Wizard....
- The introduction screen explains what the Wizard will do. Click
Next >>.
- Select Profile Migration Only. Click Next >>.
- Choose the type of Profile Migration:
- Domain A profiles -> Domain B profiles. Choose this option if moving
profiles from user accounts in one domain to user accounts in another domain. This
option might be used to complete a domain move or merger.
- Domain profiles -> Local profiles. Choose this option if moving profiles
from domain user accounts to local user accounts. This option might be used if
decommissioning a domain or moving from a domain to workgroup configuration.
- Local profiles -> Domain profiles. Choose this option if moving profiles
from local user accounts to domain accounts. This option might be used if moving from
a workgroup configuration to a domain.
- Local profiles -> Local profiles. Choose this option if moving profiles
from one local user account to another local user account. This option might be used
to rename or duplicate a profile. Local -> Local migrations can only be performed
without a domain join.
Click Next >>.
- Select the source and destination contexts for the profile migration. In the case
of a migration involving Local profiles the appropriate context will be automatically
populated with *LOCAL ACCOUNT*. For a domain migrations, enter the domain name
as the Source Context and/or Destination Context as required as well as the
name and IP address of a domain controller (DC) in that context.
- Choose the custom options for the migration. All options are selected by
default. The options are:
- Allow Alter-Ego to reboot target computers if necessary. Some operations
may require the computer to rebooted to enable a smooth migration. Computers will
not be rebooted if this option is cleared.
- Force applications closed during reboot. This option is only available
if the previous option was selected. Forcing applications closed will ensure a clean
reboot to ensure a successful migration.
- Create a copy of source user profile instead of renaming it. If this
option is deselected, the existing profile will be modified. While this will speed
up migration and may be required on systems with low amounts of free disk space, it
also eliminates the ability to roll-back to an old profile and increases the risk
of data loss.
- Do not copy 'Temporary Internet Files' folder. This option is only
available if the previous option was selected. Cached internet files can take up
a significant amount of disk space. When copying a profile, it may be desirable
to exclude these files to speed up the migration process and reduce the disk space
required. Note that some information like Cookies may be included in these files
and will therefore not be moved to the new profile.
Click Next >>.
- You may choose to import
Client computers from Active Directory or from
a CSV file. You may also choose to skip this step and add the Clients manually.
When finished, click Next >>.
- Next you can run the Authentication Wizard which will
configure the various security accounts required to complete your migration. When
finished, click Next >>.
- The Easy Setup Wizard is complete. Click Finish.
